Since v0.4.0, we’ve shipped 43 commits focused on one goal: making Writers Grove feel like a community, not just a reading platform. This release brings social features, accessibility improvements, premium subscriptions, and the foundation for everything we need before going live.

The Author Dashboard has landed. You can now create series, add books, write chapters, and publish your stories directly on Writers Grove.

Author Dashboard

Three months ago, Writers Grove was just a landing page and a newsletter signup. Today we have a functional reading platform with user accounts, AI protection, and the foundation for everything to come.

Here’s what’s working on beta.writersgrove.net:

Reading experience - Browse series, books, and chapters with keyboard navigation

User accounts - Magic link authentication and username claiming

Reader/Author toggle - Switch between modes (Author dashboard coming soon)

AI protection - Rate limiting designed to make scraping impractical

The reading side is solid. Now it’s time to build the writing side.

v0.3.0 - User Accounts & Authentication

Writers Grove Gets Personal

This release brings user accounts to Writers Grove. You can now sign in, claim your username, and switch between Reader and Author modes. But the biggest addition? Protecting your work from AI.

Protecting Creator Content from AI

This is the feature we’re most excited about. Writers Grove is built with content protection at its core.

The Problem

AI companies are scraping the web at unprecedented scale, harvesting creative works to train their models. Writers are finding their stories, styles, and characters reproduced without consent or compensation. Most platforms do nothing to stop it.

v0.2.0 - Beta Reading Experience

A Big Week for Writers Grove

This week marked a significant milestone for Writers Grove. We’ve moved from a simple landing page to a functional reading platform on our beta environment. Here’s what changed.

Database Migration: PostgreSQL on Neon

We migrated from Turso (LibSQL) to PostgreSQL hosted on Neon. This gives us:

Better tooling - PostgreSQL’s mature ecosystem and excellent full-text search capabilities

Simpler queries - Native support for the features we need without workarounds

Scalability - Neon’s serverless PostgreSQL scales with our needs

The migration included setting up proper URL slugs as indexed database columns, making our URLs cleaner and lookups faster.

v0.1.0

Our Initial Release

I’ve loved books for as long as I can recall. My mother used to read to me when I was young, that small spark turned into a lifelong passion. In elementary school I was the kid who got into trouble for reading too much in class.

Writing professionally was something I always wanted to do, but never made the leap or put in the effort. Instead I followed my other passion, that for computers and became a Software Engineer.

About WritersGrove

🌱 Our Vision

Writers Grove exists to give authors and readers a true home — one place to create, share, and enjoy stories without juggling multiple platforms.

The writing world has changed dramatically in recent years. NaNoWriMo has shut down, Kindle Vella has closed, and many authors are left trying to stitch together solutions across Royal Road, Patreon, Ko-fi, and blogs. We believe writers deserve better.

Writers Grove is being built to bring community, publishing, and monetization under one roof.

Archive

Elements

A paragraph looks like this Globally incubate standards compliant channels before scalable benefits.
